Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Creative Expressions Competition

2023 Theme:

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter”.  -- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

 

We welcome submissions from students enrolled in Champaign - Urbana schools.  Students must be enrolled in 3rd through 12th grades.  

Entries may include: drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculptures, short essays, poems, songs, rap, spoken word, short stories, or multimedia presentations.

Below are some guiding questions to help students think about the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr:

Elementary Guiding Questions

What did community mean for Martin Luther King Jr.? What does this community look like?

What do you notice about your community that should change so that everyone is included?

What can you do to change your community into one that includes everyone?

Secondary Guiding Questions

What does taking a position for justice mean?

What do you notice about your community that prevents inclusivity?

What can you do to transform your current community into an inclusive one?
